The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) in Dodoma Region has received a total of TZS 15.6 billion as of February 2026 from the Road Fund, marking a major boost to ongoing road maintenance efforts in the region. The amount is part of the TZS 18.6 billion allocated for the 2025/26 financial year to maintain and upgrade the region’s road network.

This was stated by the Acting TANROADS Regional Manager for Dodoma, Eng. Colman Ramadhani, during an inspection of the 140.6 km Dodoma–Mtera road conducted by Road Fund Board. The visit was part of routine monitoring of road maintenance works and assessment of ongoing projects. Speaking during the inspection, Eng. Ramadhani highlighted that the funds received have already enabled TANROADS to continue implementing maintenance works across the region’s road network. He noted that the release of the funds has strengthened the pace of project execution under the approved budget for the financial year.

“Maintenance works are ongoing on a total of 1,707.2 kilometres of roads and 320 bridges, with 42 contracts already signed for the execution of various maintenance activities,” said Eng. Ramadhani. He emphasized that TANROADS is committed to ensuring that all funds provided by the Road Fund are used efficiently to improve road conditions and guarantee safe, reliable travel for all road users.

Eng. Ramadhani also explained some of the challenges facing the road network. The Dodoma–Mtera road, for example, is experiencing increased traffic from heavy cargo trucks, particularly those transporting agricultural products and minerals. This increased load has accelerated the wear and tear on road surfaces, adding to the cost of maintenance. Seasonal rains and flooding are another significant challenge, especially in the Manzase area, where water sometimes overtops the road embankment, temporarily disrupting transport services for three to six hours due to safety concerns.

The one-day inspection was carried out under the headship of the Road Fund Board Chairperson, Eng. Mussa Natty, along with the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Roads Fund, Eng. Rashid Kalimbaga, who is also the President of the African Road Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA)and other members of the Board. The exercise aimed to assess the progress of maintenance works, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that projects funded by the Road Fund are delivered efficiently and in line with quality standards.

Eng. Ramadhani concluded by assuring the public that TANROADS Dodoma is committed to making the most of the Road Fund allocations to maintain and improve the region’s road network, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable road transport for all users.
